At the beginning of new school year, students make a transition from one grade level to another.  During this time they experience difficulties.  Students entering school for the first time usually experience separation aniexiety.  Some are frighten and have a fear regarding school.  Others are excited and eager to attend. The state of Alabama and the Mobile County Public School System has implemented a bridges program.  This program is design to help students make the transition from one grade level to the next, whether its elementary, middle, or secondary.  The program is usually held during the summer month of July.  Students become familiar with the environment, teachers, and the administration staff.  When the regular school begin, these students are ready for the transition.

School Attire

School attire in the United States has changed over the years.  Several states require students to wear uniforms.  In the state of Alabama, Mobile County, the uniform policy was adopted by the School Board Members.  This was done in an effort to allievate or identify students on campus.  By implementing this policy each grade level was designated to wear a specific color.  Also, students had to wear a certain type of shoe, belt, socks., etc.  Some retail stores work with the schools in supplying uniforms for purchase.  Also at the end of the school year, the PTA parent teacher association hold a used uniform sale. Students in other states throughout the country do not wear uniforms.  They wear their regular clothes which cause much peer pressure.  Some of the students parents buy the best and designer clothes only.
